Had a proper read of the Monday papers over lunch and saw this in the Indo: "He decided that he would drop Ian Harte for no clearly espoused reason. He decided to sacrifice a European champion right-back - Steve Finnan - in order to accommodate a player, John O'Shea, whose career decline is rapidly earning him the status as this generation's Eddie McGoldrick."

Strangely I haven't seen any querying in the papers of Staunton's continuing selection of Finnan at left back and O'Shea at right back. Can there be a rational explanation for that one?

And Barca got rid of Reina why?

Journalist (can't remember the name) on Sky News now just said that if Liverpool don't beat Barcelona, Bellamy's Anfield career will be over because he will be seen as the only reason Liverpool didn't win.....

Thought Pennant was ok, no more than that. He got plenty of ball without much end product. Although picking someone out in the penalty area when Everton had their defence camped on the 6 yard line for the entire match can't have been easy. I think the problem was that there was nothing coming down the left. I think someone commented that Everton could pretty much ignore that side which made it that bit easier to defend against us. I'm not quite what Rafa intended for the left hand side today.

We've nothing coming from the left. With their defence so deep we need be getting down both sides. Think Pennant has done ok on the right.

Aurelio seems to have won a huge amount of possession from what I've heard on the commentary.

He's been at Espanyol since 2002 when van Gaal let him go. I was at one of his first matches for them, against Barca in Camp Nou, in Sept 2002. Was kind of bizarre....with the Barca fans jeering de Boer unmercifully and cheering everything de la Pena did. Barca won the game 2-0 as far as I remember.
