I keep seeing all the FSG bashing, the accepted narrative that they just take money out of the club etc etc and I ignore it. But then I hit a point, like this morning, when the mood is low and the thought of returning to work next week is making me want to leave the country, and I just think f*** it.
I know no one will agree, but who cares? Life's too short to endlessly wade through a sea of negativity.
Are FSG the best owners in the world? No. Are they the worst? Also no.
Look at Utd. A glorified money-making machine whose stadium is literally falling apart. The women's team are currently in a Portakabin. Their transfer business has been appalling for years now. Do the owners care? Of course not, they just keep taking their dividends and buying new houses in Florida.
Then there's City. All the soul of a bag of crisps. Commercial partners created on a whim so the books look balanced. They've rigged the game and now they're complaining because they're being made to adhere to the rules they agreed to.
Or there's Chelsea. A card game being played by a moron. A club having to sell first team players that came through the academy to balance off the Supermarket Sweep approach to transfer windows. A club that sold two hotels to itself and hoped no one would notice. And they're new shirt is f***ing awful.
Then there's Everton. Once genuine rivals, now treating midtable like a successful season. Reduced to two cup finals a year and facing possible further point deductions while they try and avoid selling their one asset.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have been buying real talent. Spending many millions to get to second. And no one is talking about the homegrown stars now being flogged to pay for it all.
And let's not forget the June merry-go-round where Newcastle, Leicester (also facing a points deduction), Villa and Chelsea (again) had to move players around like chess pieces just to keep within the rules they all knew about.
Newcastle, of course, now one of the richest clubs in the world. Which is great if you ignore the regime they're fronting. And ignore the fact they still aren't going around buying anything that moves.
We, meanwhile, have the worst owners in history. Owners that have let down so many managers apparently. Yes, we now have a 60k+ stadium. OK, sure, the Axa Training Centre is rather nice. But the b*****ds sold off Melwood. I mean, sure, they bought it back so the women's team could have their own base, but that's not the point. But look at our squad. Worse than when Klopp took over (I actually saw the line-up against Spurs again the other day, almost had a PTSD episode).
Could FSG be better? Of course they could. But the perfect owners don't exist. And as far as I've seen over the past few years, they're doing what they consider to be the best for the long-term prospects of this club. A club that was one court hearing from going out of business.
Look, I get the lack of transfers is annoying. But unless you're planning on buying a couple of players yourself and donating them, give yourself a break eh? Go outside. Sure, there are People out there, but you can avoid most of them. We spend 10 months of the year focusing on nothing more than the last game and the next one. With barely a moment to breathe.
Be kind to yourself. We can't change things. Like the once famous Danish King, the waves will come and go. Our only choice is how wet we want our feet to get.
Pop out. Grab a donut. Have that second sausage roll. Text your mate about how s*** season 2 of Interview With The Vampire is. Maybe even allow yourself to be dragged along to B&Q for half an hour. The future's coming, we can't change it, so maybe try and focus on a positive or two before Ipswich score that 99th minute winner...
Or both. It's 2024. Fill yer boots
