if we playing 433 - probably 7 or 8 if you want to be able to play 442 - then 8/9 my assumption would be that at any given time at least 2 will be injured - it's what we do we currently have 8 but Hendo and Thiago are injury prone and have aging legs. So, I'd count them as 1 in terms of games they can play or would be available to play. more important than the number is that we have one specialist defensive midfielder and he was bloody awful for most of last season

No but I can understand if people are amazed we have not signed one and hear we are not signing more midfielders unless somebody leaves. the buying of a DM should not be conditional on an existing player moving. I could understand that logic for a player like Szoboslai being bought. whatever you think of him Pearce is not a mouthpiece and has been right many times. It may well be what he's hearing and what the club want him to print but I doubt they are saying to him print this it will help our negotiations with Southampton. People say we have a load of midfielders but most have big questions against them.

but everybody knew we needed 3 midfielders for months now we will still be short as it stands Thiago and Henderson only really count as 1 midfielder Far from guaranteed Fabinho returns to his former excellent self Jones had a good couple of months at the end of the season when pressure was off I don't even know what Elliot is really. Not sure he is a midfielder. Bajcetic is still very young and coming back from a bad injury. I've heard some question whether Szoboszlai is even a midfielder. Looks like Trent will still be starting as a RB. For me the priority was a DM who was physically strong and could run all day. That has not been addressed.

How can we not buy a specialist number 6 this summer? It would be mental after last season.

we are fecked when Klopp leaves for so many reasons but attracting players in the post-Klopp age will be a struggle

his last game for Leipzig was 3rd June his last game for Hungary was 20th June maybe does not start pre-season on the 8th?

assuming the Hungarian lad (as he will be known) signs, the next midfielder has got to be a specialist 6. not some lad who can do a job but a proper gnarly, quick, strong, tactical foul supremo
