I've got this sneaky feelin' that Rafa might try and persuade Jerzy to stay. His logic might be that Jerzy will command next to zero in transfer fees, whilst Carson would sell for 4m-ish.

 

Better for us to keep the highly competent Jerzy and get 4m more into the transfer kitty, than to let Jerzy go for next to nothing, and keep a 4m asset warming the bench all season.

Dudek is probably on about £30-40k a week while Carson is probably on about £15-20k a week

really? there are quite a few i'd swap him for, but probably none of whom would be content to sit on our bench on a regular basis.

 

Jerzy is an exceptionally good keeper. He gets some stick for a couple of errors he made a while ago, but all keepers make errors and have bad patches. Jerzy made less than most, and most importantly he performs on the big occasions (unlike James, Bartez, Seaman etc)

 

Better than Van Der Saar and Howard (though I admit VDS was better than him at his peak). Better than Given and Robinson (both untested in high pressure games and both make more errors but are less publicised).

 

I still reckon he's better than Lehmann, though Lehmann has improved dramatically this season but if Jerzy errors from a few years ago are held against him, then I reckon Lehmann's should be too when comparing the two.

 

I'll be sad to see him go, but I don't think he is happy sitting on our bench, and nor should he be, but he is not better than Reina. Who ever gets him for a few million will get a bargain.

 

If the Poland manager thinks he has three better keepers than Dudek, then he is an idiot.
