this year's task of preparing the students for the presentation part of their exam (a mini speech).

 

Hard work because of the level of intensity required to listen to and appreciate on so many levels the quality of the language and style etc...

 

I enjoy it but it is draining: day after day of one-on-one prep lasting for hours at a time.

 

What is useful though is that it forces you (me) to think very deeply and objectively as to what makes a speech good or otherwise.

 

My ideas have changed over time but some constants remain. One of which is the utter crappinness many of these kids (19-20 year olds) have been taught elsewhere by hickdeads who clearly couldn't stand up and speak to save their lives.
