Ok, so we are faced with opponents with an unlimited budget, who can afford to spend £24m on Drogba, £19m on a centre-half and £13m on a right back. We all know that, with those resources, Rafa would win us the World Cup. But we know that we don't and won't have those resources.

So what can we, the fans, do?

I have been unimpressed by the reaction of the national (especially broadsheet)Press to Chelsea. What articles that have been written always talk up the organisational skills of Mourinho, with heavy emphasis on 'it's not just the money, you know'. Of course, it might just be that the Abramovich money has also bought the acquiescence of the Press too..

Here, though, is where I think that we can start to dictate the agenda. There is a great deal of unease/mistrust amongst the public as to where and how Abramovich acquired his millions, and the effect it has had on his homeland, and we need to play on that.

We also need to let Mourinho know that, great coach that he is (regardless of his ego), he will NEVER get, indeed CANNOT get, the respect that he so obviously craves whilst he is there.

Quite rightly, our banners are famed throughout the world (Henry WINTER in the Telegraph can't write an article about us without mentioning them). It is time now to turn them fully on to Chelsea, in a way that hopefully will mess with their heads:

e.g. I'm thinking of a banner of the Bond villain's Blofelts big, fat white pampered cat, being stroked by a hand with the face unseen, with Mourinho's face super-imposed over the cats, and the legend :'And yet he asks for respect?'

or from the Bible, Book of Proverbs, 'Ill gotten monies soon disappear'

or 'In Russia they starve and eat horses, just so Terry gets to drive faster Porsches'.

That kind of idea, anyway. We need to up the ante on the dubious origins of Chelsea's fortunes (no pun intended), do all we can to tell them that they will never be respected for any achievements they make. We know we get under Mourinho's skin, now we need to work on that.

I can see where you're coming from, but I don't think it'll catch on.

Unless they really are going to turn the history books inside out, then Chelsea's fortunes on the pitch will change at some point. The media circus that Mourinho has built up to their advantage will then cease to be an asset. Nothing and nobody escapes scrutiny forever, and it's then that the real test of character begins.

Chelsea have had it very easy so far, and their inevitable fall promises to be uniquely spectacular.
