British Comedy Awards

Some baffling things here, I've no idea who makes up the judging panels BUT...

1. The Simpsons beat Curb for best foreign comedy show. The Simpsons may have been great in its day but its been flagging for some time now, and let's face it, Curb is genius.

2. Ashley Thingummy off of Extras. From the moment she opened her mouth in accepting the prize it dawned on everyone that she's simply playing herself in a pretty one-dimensional way on Extras. Yet she managed to beat David Mitchell (Peep Show) to 'Best Newcomer' and Catherine Tate to Best Actress (I know the latest Catherine Tate show was not as good as hoped but you can't deny she's an astonishingly good actress.

3. X-Factor won Best Comedy Show (all the awards were Best Comedy Show so forgive me for getting this award title wrong). How's that then?

4. The three nominees in EVERY category were Ant 'n' Dec, Little Britain, Extras and Jonathan Ross. How's that then?

5. Little Britain won loads. This show is going downhill faster than Franz Klammer with a rocket up his *rse, so who decided this??

Having said that, Chris Langham managed to beat Ricky Gervais to Best Actor so there was at least ONE correct result I suppose.

Discuss.

Just is - he was genuinely pissed off about not getting an award, despite the fact that the only reason these awards exist is to generate column inches about programmes that most of us could care less about. Not saying he's not a good performer, he's just an ignorant and arrogant c*nt.

The whole thing is a sham - more like an xmas party for people who work in comedy and like most xmas parties, it always disappoints.

:D

Just checked - we've apparently got some kind of record for nominations at certain awards ceremonies and yet have never won anything!  We're the perrenial bridemaids of UK comedy - i'll be working on something next feb that wins loads so karmic balance is restored.
