How the fekkety feck do people stay in business?

This was my afternoon yesterday....

Bought a few bits in M&S lunchtime and was in a queue of 6 people to pay. 2 people manning tills. 1 o'clock on the nose, a till is shut as it's lunchtime. Someone else shows up and the other person scoots as fast as his spotty face will go. The remaining person then starts moaning and sighing to me that she has been left all alone with this long queue. That'd be the queue that buys the products that creates the revenue to pay your wages, dear.

I picked up my car from the dealer. Despite sending them (registered post) my insurance docs so they can tax the car, they haven't. Despite assuring me that the car had been serviced, that also has not been done - at least no stamp in the service book. So the wife is driving in a car that seems to have been taxed but we have no disk

Someone sent us flowers at home. We were out - working, as you do. So I called and they said "when can you come and pick them up?". So after suggesting that they should deliver them.... "we can do it after 10 o'clock tomorrow". OK.... so that would be when I am at work...These would be flowers, which die so quick delivery to the customer would be sensible?

I have taken the day off and arranged a man/van to take some stuff out of my flat and up to my mums house. I sent an email 3 weeks back asking for a quote in which I said SOME of the items would need to be wrapped/protected. I also called and made sure we arranged date and time (after 9am!) and sent them address details, again stressing the need to wrap an armchair. They called last night to confirm the booking and mentioned that I would need to make sure the items were wrapped. So after a suggestion that a little more notice of that MIGHT have been useful, he agreed to look into getting a roll of bubble wrap. 1/2 hour later I got a text saying "I think I'll leave it" - so he's not getting £300 for a days work.

While I am at home, I have the main coming to fix the washing machine. Handy little service that if you call after 4.30 the day before (note, this is cleverly after office hours), they will give you an estimated time of the service call. Great. Except their little service seems to have no record of my "booking" and so I actually have no idea if, or when, the bloke will show up. Chances are it's an "afternoon call"..

HOW THE FEKK DO PEOPLE MANAGE TO STAY IN BUSINESS? Where's the notion of service, or doing what you say you're going to do? Recognising that actually it's ME, the CUSTOMER who pays the wages. Two of them are small outfits where you'd expect service, the car is a main dealer so I guess you cannot expect too much. There's something wrong when people are so happy just walking away from work/pishing off customers. Sure people are paid poorly and the like but in a country where we have no manufacturing industry and are all now telephone sanitisers, we seem to be doing a pisspoor job of providing service.
