They're just the sharp end of British nationalism.

Nah. They're a group of dinosaurs who represent nothing of mainstream British opinion.

'British Nationalism' doesn't really exist. We could have an independent Scotland in a few years, and Wales is taking more powers on.

I would guess that, as has been for a long time, 90%+ of the population of England, Scotland and Wales doesn't give a stuff what happens in NI.

Daft c**** are just looking for an excuse cos they think the Republicans/Nationalists are "chipping away" at their "Britishness". They're too stupid to understand that Great Britain; hence England, Scotland and Wales; doesn't include Northern Ireland, or that the constitution of the Republic of Ireland no longer lays claim on the six counties of the North, or that the status quo can only be changed by the consent of the majority of the people of Norn Iron.

It'll be interesting to see the results of the most recent census with regards to the make-up of the population here.

If flags don't matter and all that, just let the loyalists fly it all year round, solves the problem.

As soon as I saw your name as the last poster in the thread, I expected a post like this.

The loyalist/unionist section here has had a shocking few years PR wise. This latest nonsense is probably the most embarrassing yet.

Had outside loyalists putting up some flags in my area today. So proud of their actions, many of theml had scarves covering their faces.

Rascals.

Poke your nose, you have no idea. There's lads on here lived with this for decades and (so far as I know) have no understanding of the situation from any kind of personal perspective.

The flag removal is nothing but a political stunt. The union flag/ butchers apron only flies on several days at the assembly so by bringing the city hall into sync was no big movement really. Yet the DUP where eager to raise the profile of this issue . On the other side, there was no real need to push this issue now and there are more pressing matters for the council to deal with, yet Sinn Feinn went ahead.

Quite clearly both of the main parties are using thus issue to cover up their own problems. Recently SF has been shown to have quite differing policies north and south of the border ( pro choice in Dublin , anti abortion in Belfast ..anti austerity in Dublin, pro austerity in Belfast ) and are under pressure because of this . The DUP also have issues surrounding their policies and have been making huge public gaffes recently . There has also been several high profile cases involving DUP members and finance deals.

When you factor in all of these issues , the flag debate has saved their asses. It has taken people's minds away from the job losses, the return of soup kitchens, the fact that both of these parties are implementing the condem's austerity measures. History repeats itself and parties in Ireland always raise the sectarian flag in times of trouble. This is all that's happening here .

No the alliance are getting stick because they voted to remove it

They didn't act like de facto unionists, is how it's being seen by Loyalists that have no concept of good PR and have embarrassed themselves in the extreme. They demand everyone follow a democratic process, but kick off at this because Belfast City Council now has a Nationalist majority for the first time ever through legitimate elections.

The DUP & UUP sent out leaflets encouraging people to lobby Alliance members to vote to keep the flag flying and printed all their addresses. They've a lot to answer for.

but...but..theyve condemned the violence. Theyre not to blame for it turning violent once they had called people out onto the streets...they expected it to be a nice peaceful protest just as its been every other time they used the type of rhetoric theyve used on this issue.

who knew?

Instead of sniping from the sidelines, what would your opinion on all this be?

The sooner Unionists/Loyalists realise the vast majority of people in Britain don't give a schite about us and decide to focus their energy on a Northern Ireland for all, instead of the stupidity of religion, the better.

doesnt matter what the rest of britain thinks though or about the whole UK/great britain semantics, they see themselves and NI as wholly british.
