Leo No.8 Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Fantastic that tonight - cant help but feel a bit frustrated that the balance hasnt been better in the side more often. Downing and Henderson still played, but the players surrounding them made the whole team a different proposition. Since the New Year Kenny has retreated a bit IMO, I guess when results start going the wrong way caution can creep in and I think that's what caused us to go downhill so fast - poor balance in the side. Tonight you didn't see a single out and out defensive midfielder in our side but we protected the defence well by playing on the front foot. Shelvey and Henderson were both coming deep to get the ball off the defenders but then giving it wide then pushing on to attack. You had goals in Carroll, Suarez, Maxi and Shelvey has shown a real desire to play adventurously and could well have scored a few before now in limited games. The midfield and attack selection was so much more positive than it has been in a long time. Compare to the cup final starting team, the balance and our ability to score goals was totally different. Also when Maxi plays we tend to play well much more often. He has a wonderful understanding with Suarez and makes those around him play better, such a clever little player. Too
