Dirk, Kelly and Meireles

This is no knee jerk - I've consistently stood up for Dirk through good periods and bad or the last few years.

 

Dirks time is up. He was often sound on the right of a 4 2 3 1 for both us and his national team for a number of years. He's without exception been poor on the right of a 4 4 2.

 

 

 

Kenny is playing a more skillful possession based game - close control, pass and move type play.

 

 

I don't know if it's the change in approach or not, but for the first time I feel Dirk is a liability to the way we play and that he is't likely to come around and be an asset again.

 

 

In my opinion, time for Dirk to move on to a team that is more suited to his play. If we get Suarez will he replace Dirk in the starting 11 ?

 

 

 

Kelly and Meireles on the other hand are looking like a revelation. One free through the ranks and one in for a not huge sum. Looking like they both have a part to play for many years to come.

I honestly wouldn't count dirk out yet.. I know he has been poor.. his touch in some games has been awful but he works bloody hard defensively and tracks back etc.. I still think he can do a job for us.. just maybe not starting every game..

 

Spot on about Kelly and Meireles.. especially Kelly.. the kid has everything.. strength.. speed.. he's brave going forward and well.. his positional sense in the handful games he's played has been better than Johnson at RB at his entire time at Liverpool.

Dirk has simply been below par since the world cup.

 

Whether it is simply another of his 'oops I took 4 months off form, but it's ok cuz I still run a lot' periods further compounded by world cup tiredness, or he is simply finished, we should be looking for better for the starting 11.

I love Dirk, but he has been poor this season. Having both him and Maxi on the pitch slows us down, but at least Maxi has contributed more and is better at a quick passing game. I think the fact that Dirk puts in more of a shift defensively, so offers decent cover for Kelly is keeping him in the team at the moment. But I do think attack wise, we're losing something by having him in the team at the moment.

I have never been Kuyts biggest fan, not saying he is crap, but hes looked shot since last season. I applaud him for the goals, assists and contribution to the team, hes a fighter. But im getting sick of this "he works so hard etc.etc." all the time, some people always lets him off on that. Half of all the work he puts in is down to his own limitations, I dont think he should get so much credit for trying to clean up his own mess, it should be a given.

 

As for Kelly, I believe he is going to be a monster of a right back. Hes got it all to succeed as a right back plus some more, most modern left/right backs are rather "small" and pacy and can attack. Hes got it all plus height and strength, hope he stays a right back and not get pushed inside. Rather see us make him into a top class right back then a good center back. Cause even though he is tall etc. I think hes going to be a bit light as a center back, kinda like Skrtel.

Dirk has had an average season like all our other key players. The time to judge is at the end of the season not now. Everyone needs to focus on doing the best they can for the next 14 BPL games and making sure we get some pride back into the name Liverpool Football Club and ensuring we finish as high as possible. That is priority No. 1. An added bonus is winning the Europa League which is something we are very capable of doing as well.

Gosh I didn't know what you were talking about when you said we only have 14 league games left this season. I kind of felt our league season only started 4 games ago...
