Employment in Liverpool

I know it's hard in these times an' all but what are the best means to find a temporary job in Liverpool? A mate of mine is moving there for a couple of months and needs a job but is unfamiliar with the city and country so he doesn't really know where to look. His prior work experience is mainly as a carpenter and a magician but I really don't think he's bothered with what kind of job it is as long as he gets an income. Any advice highly appreciated..
