YNWA's (well, my) Comic Books of the decade

You’ve had your pop music and your moving pictures, so it’s time (even if I’m on my own) for the best of the decade from god’s own medium - comic books.

Slight exception to the other formats. One book stood out as being so far ahead of the pack, it would be perverse not to give it a number 1 spot. So take a bow Brian K Vaughan, Pia Guerra and Goran Sudzuka. Never mind best of the decade, Y: The Last Man is probably my favourite comic book ever.

So onto the rest. Alphabetical order, all well worth anybody’s time:

Alias (Bendis and Gaydos)

Annihilation (Giffen, DnA, Di Vito, etc)

Astonishing X-Men (Whedon and Cassady)

The Authority (Ellis/Hitch and Millar/Quitely eras)

The Boys (Ennis and Robertson)

Captain America Vol. 5, issue 1 to date (Brubaker and various artists)

Criminal (Brubaker and Phillips)

Daredevil – whole of the last 10 years really, but especially the Bendis & Maleev run

Ex Machina (Vaughan and Harris)

Immortal Iron Fist (Brukaker, Fraction and Aja)

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Moore and O’Neill)

New X-Men (Morrison and various artists)

Nextwave (Ellis and Immonen)

Phonogram (Gillen and McKelvie)

Planetary (Ellis and Cassady)

Powers (Bendis and Oeming)

Pride of Baghdad (Vaughan and Henrichon)

Punisher Max (Ennis and various artists)

Runaways (Vaughan and Alphonsa era, especially volume 1)

Thunderbolts (Ellis and Deodato run)

The Walking Dead (Kirland and Moore or Adland)

X-Men: Magneto Testament (Pak and Di Giandomenico)

There’s been loads of others that I’ve really, really liked and I’ll no doubt remember something that’s a glaring omission shortly, but that’ll do for starters.

After the creative wasteland (with the odd very honourable exception) of 90s, the 00s has been a great, great decade for comics.
