Working Gap Year in Australia

Has anyone on the forum done this/know anyone who has?

 

I've recently graduated from Uni and am thinking about heading out to Australia (probably Sydney) for 6 months in January to work and travel etc.

 

I've been doing some research and it seems you need a fair amount around £2000 to be allowed into the country - plus the costs for a Visa, flights, insurance, acommodation etc.

There are travel companies that provide some of this stuff for quite a steep price and I was just wondering whether it is worth it (both in terms of cost and ease) to go through these companies as they make it easier for you to get a job (apparently). Anyone who's had any experience of this any information would be gratefully received!
