Anyone know how to fix a 360 game disc?

Obviously I have re-installed Java and hit it with a hammer, but being stupid I moved my Xbox with COD5 disc in and now it is scratched and won't load the "Asylum" level, which is annoying. I've seen there are various places you send away your disc to, but wondered if there was a more household-based solution? Also heard that Game or Gamestation might do a repair service?
