I know transfer talk is common, as is net spend, but I wanted to look at Rafa's profit making deals. I'm convinced he signs certain players to make money.

Josemi, krompkamp to Arbeloa would be one

Voronin

Bellamy

I'm sure the kids he has signed will be sold for more too.

wenger has a good record, but that is because he sells his good players. how ,uch has he gotten for his disposables?

I don't think he purposely signs any player only for profit making potential..that's a dangerous game. But sometimes players don't quite work out and if they've put in a decent shift and arrived for an underinflated fee then there's potential to make a few bob on them

He has also made a profit on the following:

Crouch

Sissoko

Gonzales (?)

Basically Rafa's been involved in a continual upgrade of the playing staff since he arrived & I think he's signed a number of players, such as Kronkamp & Bellamy, with the idea that they are short-term signings intended to fill a position for a limited period of time until they can be replaced by better quality.

If they prove him wrong, great – if not, they are sold on, usually at a profit because he's paid attention to saleability when buying & therefore picked up many of them either on a free or relatively cheaply.

He's had to follow this path because he started from such a low base - the squad he inherited had nowhere near the quality needed to consistently challenge for silverware - with the majority of the squad needing replacing & because he hasn't had the budget to buy top quality players across all positions all at once/straight away.

i'm in absolute total agreement.. you wouldn't hear many saying this - they'd continue the spin that he's signed a load of duds - but i'm absolutely convinced with this.. well said..

That's a pretty thin list. We made a million on Bellamy who was then sold on for 4 or 5 million more wasn't he? So is that good or bad?

On the one hand I hear that when a player is signed for over the odds that's not Rafa's fault its Parry's or the Yanks fault.

Yet if there is ever a profit made its down to Rafa's acumen.

Basically anything good that happens give Rafa the credit.

Anything bad, blame someone else.

Have it both ways. A simple and effective formula.

Yeah, spot on. We've often had to take two or three steps to get the right player whereas other clubs can go and spend big the first time.

I had a look at this a few weeks back when we had the discussion over Rafa's signings and it was roughly something like losses £6.5m gains £13m IIRC on players he's signed and then sold. Those figures dont include this season mind.
