our midfield...

at least in the center...were excellent today, masch possibly gave us his best performance this season...alonso again was majestic which makes it even more strange why he was left out in the week.....anyway

 

Im happy with those two in the middle the rest of the season.....its either side of them that seems to be a bit of a problem..

 

Reira and kuyt were arguably our poorest performers today.....both had plenty of chances to get the ball into the box and failed miserablly..

 

Now Reira adds great balance to our side and is capable of a moment of genius, i would keep him in the side for that reason..also because we dont really have another opition there....and dont anyone say Babel.

 

The right hand side....and dirk kuyt seems off the boil right now, his passing/crossing today was awful...yes great work rate ,etc....but with Arbeloa back and masch looking back to his best... i feel we need more fliar on the right and bit less grit......

This brings me to Yossi.......the last 2 games have shown him step up....he adds that bit extra that can unlock defences, he might not have the workrate of kuyt....but again, this isnt our problem right now...its making chances and scoring goals...

 

basically in my opinion...time for Yossi to get a run....

Yossi was good, but Dirk, poor as some of his play was, did the disciplined stuff for 75 minutes or so - stayed wide, always available for the ball(even if he didn't always control it), and most importantly, kept Cole from going forward at all. Not sure Yossi would have dome that as well.

and yes dirk did a solid job in respect.....still we have to really "go for it" now, we are solid enough with masch,arbeloa,skrtel,aurellio,carra.....having another grinder in midfield really takes away from our attacking threat...we cant rely on gerrard and torres all the time.

 

Im hoping as i know all of us are..that our bad run is over, though even today we really struggled to make chances.......its time for a bit more flair in midfield.

 

Or of course we could play gerrard right and keane behind torres.... which would be my dream line up....though it`ll never happen
