Double standards for 'role models'? But of course

Now I know that drug addiction is nothing to be sniffed at and is a serious matter for those who are affected and their nearest and dearest. I recognise that being a prop forward carries a great weight of expectation and pressure on one's shoulders BUT I imagined that today I would hear 'experts' telling me how this rugby interntional should be pilloried and hounded from his home with pitchforks and torches (think Springfield). How he has caused distress to the innocent youth of our nation but nothing at all.

Like the incident in New Zealand involving a group of international rugby players, young ladies and allegations of rape and sexual misbehaving, it seems to have been conveniently dropped from the media's usual agenda of hounding and naming and shaming.

The silence in pillorying these RU players is deafening and the hypocrisy between their treatment and that of any incident involving footballers is staggering but not unexpected.

I'm not suggesting anybody be treated to the media's glare and their problems be highlighted for all to see and read about - but a consistent approach might be something to aim for.
