As you probably know our van was stolen from outside our house just before Christmas. It was later found in Wythenshaw a bit smashed up - damage to the back wheel, the interior, the ignition area, door etc.

I informed the police and the insurance company. The van has been taken to a recovery yard and is going to be inspected to see whether it is worth repairing etc. We have an appointment with an assessor on Monday.

Having never had this happen before, nor know of anyone that has had their car stolen, we're wondering what happens during this process?

We bought the vehicle for £4000 and insured it for that much. What are the possible outcomes?

1. they pay us all the money back and write off the van and we never get to see it again?

2. pay for the repairs and return it to us?

3. pay us something and allow us to buy back the van?

Is the job of the assessor to assign blame (?) or to see if we were culpable in any way?

So any idea or insight into how they assess the condition of car, or how they assess the value of it, or how they assess how much they should pay us etc..

What if we want to repair the van and they won't/don't ??

Thanks,

D
