What do you think are the chances of having a real spaceship (Which, for the purposes of this I'll define as one that can get beyond the orbit of the moon) which can transport people to the other planets on our solar system within our lifetimes?

Although there are impressive missions being accomplished by NASA (And others!) and the ISS theoretially allows a 'jumping off point' - is it likely given the huge cost involved that mankind will ever really make it off the surface of the Earth and make it to somewhere farther than the moon?

Given global climate change, the recession and the general desire of humankind to move beyond the Earth - is it really feasible? Given that tiny litttle probes that go to Mars cost upward of £1bn - how much exactly would a large vehicle capable of getting there and back (Or even just there with humans aboard?)

Although the steps we've made are encouraging - are they, like manned moon missions, going to dry out and end - or will we finally take one meaningful step beyond the confines of our planet?
