Having a chimney lined

Apparently whenever we light our fire at the moment our next door neighbour's back room fills up with smoke. Peronally I can't see the issue but they're not happy and I've been advised that the only way to really fix the problem is to have my chimney lined. I'm assuming this will cost me a fortune - anyone had this done? Is it a big job? How much was it?
