Possibly the most random question to be asked

Right.

Don't ask why...

If I wanted to power an electrical device (a laptop say) via a bike, I'd need the following equipment...

A bike.

A frame for the bike to keep it off the ground

A dynamo that was able to allow a plug socket to draw power

Now I know the 1st one exists, and I'm pretty sure the second does....

Does the 3rd?

Yep - that was my thinking. It's part 3 I am unsure about...

I doubt you could draw enough consistent power to be honest. In theory its simple enough to wire a standard bike dynamo up to provide a live and neutral however.

Besides sounds like a right w***y presentation ;)

Come on Sutty i am hooked. Im presuming you dont work for a bike, dynamo or laptop manufacturer so..... what the f*** is your presentation all about?

Perhaps we can help with ideas ;)

It's not a presentation as such, it's milk round style stands. The company I work for has a green IT offering. The idea is that people come and pedal, see how knackering it is to power a piece of kit (understand how much energy it uses) and then talk to us about the green IT offering.

In a nutshell

It's possible.

Bike and a turbo-trainer

You can either hook up the bike wheel, or the flywheel of the turbo trainer to get power. Trying to think where I saw this and all I can remember is that the idea was put to good use: driving a blender to make margaritas.

And lo, a quick google...

HTH

edit

The margarita idea will be more of a hit on a milk round stand

They do it on an episode of Red Dwarf, try to fry and egg using a hair dryer

That said, the also have a cat/human thing

But as i remember it. Lister responded something along the lines

"lets face it Cat. It's just not possible to fry an egg using a bicycle powered hair dryer!"

Scientific FACT!!! is against you

However they did get the hairdryer going - so there's evidence that it is possible. I just won't fry an egg
