Back entry diddler Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Thanks for some great memories.I think it was Thomo at Spurs drew Mackay and Gilzean into the tackle from both sides and pushed ball thro while running around them. They collided and needed attention. Gilzean was brought back into defence to try to curb Thomo.

Signing him at the time Shanks did, had a similar effect as say, signing a young, fit Harry Kewell now, or a Ronaldo without the hate potential.
Back entry diddler Posted November 27, 2007 Author Posted November 27, 2007 Understand he has a pub in the Lake District nowadays. Anybody know where as I intend to visit next year ?
Guest chris mc Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Understand he has a pub in the Lake District nowadays. Anybody know where as I intend to visit next year ? He did have. I stayed there for a couple of days and it was very pleasant. He had his shirts and medals on display. Unfortunately, he had some problems following a drink drive conviction and I have a feeling that he may have subsequently moved on . Truly great player and a very nice bloke.

Christ fyds, the full story is one of the great Shankly tales. Having earned the nickname he proceeded to have a stinker in a game, when he came off at the end Shanks quote was 'White Pele? White Nelly more like'. I love that tale. Edited November 27, 2007 by Murph

That's not the same story, that's a follow up you old get He was great though.
Murphman Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 That's not the same story, that's a follow up you old get He was great though. It only works if you imagine Shankly saying it. Funny how your mind works as a kid, I found out Peter Thompson had a petrol station in Preston and spent an hour moaning at my old man for refusing to go there to fill up (like he was going to be on the feckin pumps). We were visiting in Kirkby at the time. He was a good player alright.

Feck off!! Alright, it's a fair cop, I do remember him well I first started supporting Liverpool when I was about 10, just in time for the famous 'eye aye adio we've won the cup' final in 1965. He was in the squad for the 1970 final as I recall but as you say, Heighway replaced him. Roger Hunt if he were 25 years old now would be worth £25m. Edited November 27, 2007 by Murph
