NTSC to PAL

Just been to the US and got some DVD boxsets there. Brought them back and played them on my DVD player and there's a very slight, almost imperceptible "stutter" in the framerate that makes them bizarrely uncomfortable to watch. Is there anything I can do about this? It doesn't seem to happen on my DVD drive on my PC. I've read somewhere that you might have to speed up the framerate as NTSC is slower than PAL?
