A certain amount of panic has swept through my equestrian circless. Apparently this bluetongue virus is spread by the same midge as spreads AHS. AHS is fatal in something like 90% of infected equines. The government is prepared to treat AHS and its potential impact on all equestrian activities, including the multimillion pound racing and breeding industry, as a secondary problem to that of a renewed Foot and mouth or Bluetongue outbreak. Try telling that face to face to all Dobbin owners, Mr Brown

 

AHS has caused devastation in parts of southern Europe, but for now the outbreaks of Bluetongue in Northern Europe have not yet brought about a spread in AHS.
