We were still suffering a hangover from 2005 and now we can finally shake it off and concentrate on the future.

This summer will see some big changes which Rafa can tackle with a clear conscience and clear some of the deadwood which has hampered our potential for too long.

Paolo Maldini can retire happy and I don`t think anyone can begrudge him that. He`s been a true leg-end of the game, a real gentleman and the bit they showed of him praising the Pool fans for their impassioned response when the teams came out for the 2nd half in 2005, was an example of magnanimity that fans, players and a manager of certain team; that cannot be mentioned; should learn from.

The future is bright, the future is Liverpool. The new investment in our club is a genuine attempt to establish a dynasty and a force to be reckoned with; for which the board should be applauded; as it is evidently being used to underline; first and foremost; the fundamentals of the club, rather than taking a risk on a `global brand`.

We can honestly say that, as our team grows stronger, we will be in more CL finals in the future, unlike certain other clubs who get investment from fickle, fly-by-night tax-evaders who guarantee nothing but their standing in The Times Richlist.

Be strong, have faith and don`t be downhearted, we reached the final twice in 3 years(not 31 years), with a better but not great team, and only lost against a more determined foe which, imo, had more to prove at home than they did on the European stage.

I think I know what he means, winning in Istanbul has been a bit of a millstone in some respects, and the book has kind of been balanced out tonight, with the better team losing in both matches. To have lost in 2005 and won tonight would possibly be a more accurate reflection of where we actually are in terms of progression.

As some on here have already mentioned, this small setback could well be the catalyst for putting together the final pieces for a serious assault on the League title. I do believe this to be only a small setback as I am very confident that this won't be the last European final we contest before the decade is out.

Exactly what I'm saying. In fact, with the players I expect Rafa to bring in, we'll be back within 2 years.

That doesnt stop me feeling the lowest i'v ever felt after a match. I can't believe losing a European Cup final can feel so bad.

I'm normally very optimistic; i even said we'd have chelsea in the second leg and claimed the first leg wasnt a terrible result. i thought id feel happy at just getting here...

But i think 10 mins after the final whistle is the most gutted i'v ever felt in footie. Sittin' there in the middle of the pub i could'v sobbed my eyes out, i cant believe we lost... i really thought it as ours.

The reality of the situation will probably hit home tomorrow - instead of enjoying a fantastic day basking in 'The Joy of Six' and another victory parade we've got to reflect on why we've finished yet again so far behind the champions. Gillett and Hick's bank acount will have to be severely raided this summer to enable us to replace the last few bits of dross in our squad - mostly now confined to the attacking wide areas and up front.

losing this game will be hard for the fans, but if we are honest, it showed us that we have to be more clinical in the 18 yard box, we have to get more bodies into the 18 yard box, we need to take advantage of dead ball situations whether it is a corner, a free kick or a throw in.

our defensive play was rock solid for most of the game and we failed in only 1 area, up front.

let's hope that thsi is the summer where we get the gift of a great goalscorer.

Tonight in athens is what football is all about Liverpool fans and milan fans singing each others songs, no doubt in the days to come, there will be many youtube videos of the singing, and being part of it was fantastic.

LFC fans were 100% magnanimous in defeat, we love the club, and we were fantastic there today in the olympic stadium. the rosso neri are a good bunch, of course they were not to be found in istanbul, but that hurt deep..

today was a great display of friendship between 2 clubs that both have enormous histories.

This pretty much sums it up for me.
