As some of you know, I reached what's known as a "compromise agreement" with my company whereby I leave with a payout and neither side can say anything detrimental about the other. Both sides have agreed to this now. I have been contacted by three former colleagues in the last two days who've told me that my former manager took them all to one side and told them something I think may contravene this agreement. He has told them in no uncertain terms that any of them who may provide me with a reference, even a good character reference, will be subect to disciplinary action. WTF's that all about? What's it to him who does and who doesn't provide me with a reference? He further told my colleagues that any enquiries of that nature should be referred to HR. Seems a bit off to me but does anyone know if this is in any way strange?
