So now I'm unemployed.

After my scrap with my company, thanks to my d****ead manager, I was invited to leave. They knew they didn't have a leg to stand on and they would have been mullered at any tribunal so they offered me some money to walk into the sunset. I asked for far more than they offerred and after some back and forth between me and them, I ended up accepting the equivalent of 15 months salary. Some of this is taxable as it goes over the threshold of tax-free severance but 15 months is 15 months isn't it?

I would have gone for my day in court as this would have ended the backstabber's career but my solicitor told me their offer was too good to be true. He reckons it would be very unusual to obtain 15 months salary as a payout in court as such amounts are only given in racial or sexual harrassment-type cases. They've also allowed me to keep their car for three months as well, which is nice.

The rest of my colleagues are stunned but because the company put a gag on things, they didn't know about it until it was too late to do stuff so now they're forced to work for this tyrant who'll make their lives miserable as he knows he can get away with just about anything now.

Anyway, what they didn't know was that I was contacted by a guy that the company did the same thing to five years' ago. Like me, to this day he still doesn't know what he did wrong either and he's still very bitter. He set up a rival company (although much smaller) and he's asked me to join him working for them. So it looks like happy days. A job to walk into with a payment that all but pays off my mortgage!

Of course I'm still bitter as this came completely out of the blue and for a thing that was virtually entirely the manager's fault so the money doesn't entirely soften the blow.
