Went to the Borderline last night to see Po' Girl

Seasoned Will gig watchers (well all right, Charle Clown) will be pleased to know that I caught (most of) both support acts this time due to a fairly swift move from pub to venue, as my mates wanted to get something to eat inside (and failed to...)

As we came down the stairs into the venue I assumed we had missed the first act (Jeremy Lindsay) and were coming in on Alice McLaughlin - but no, he sings very high. Anyway, he was ok - slightly oddball folky singer in a naff jumper. Alice McLaughlin was similarly alright - she can sing, but none of her songs are particularly memorable. In fact, I had seen her supporting Tom Verlaine at the 100 Club last year and she was much the same then

Po' Girl were a pleasant surprise. Despite having both their first 2 albums, I've never really grown to more than quite like them - but they played a very good set, with quite a lot of new ones - oh, and OM I'd describe them as an all-girl soul-tinged alt.country/folk group (OK?)

Drank slightly too much but hada good night. Resisted the temptation to buy their new album off them (fifteen robbing quid), but we spoke to them briefly at the end any way

Next up - The Arcade Fire next week
