It's alive and well in Buddhist disco's and Guiness book of record attempts

A pop-punk band has beaten a world record playing 27 concerts in ten-and-a-half hours across London.

Leicester Square in central London played host to the Buck Brothers' first and last gig on Monday. Other gigs took place at Camden, Soho and Islington.

The band beat the previous record set by German group Kansas City in Hamburg three years ago. They played 26 concerts in 12 hours.

A Guinness Book of Records official was present to ratify the record.

'Real challenge'

The Buck Brothers were attempting to play 30 concerts by 2300 GMT.

But by 2130 GMT they had beaten the world record and with some venues cancelling their intended gigs, there were no more venues left on their list to play at.

"We're absolutely ecstatic," said band member Andy Duke. "In the face of adversity, I mean everything that could go wrong did go wrong.

"We had to swap bits of the PA system and much more, however we had to make the best of a bad situation.

"It was a real challenge. But we did it. I'm delighted, it's fantastic."

The band played their final gig, the 28th, after celebrating in Leicester Square.

Mr Duke and other band members Pete Sellers and Horatio Agar met at a Buddhist disco in Stoke Newington, north London, in 2005.
