Disciplinary hearings at work.

You good people on here are a constant source of useful information on such issues and I now throw myself on your mercy and ask for your help.

I have been "invited" to a disciplinary hearing at work and need some ammunition or legal information I can use.

Here are the facts: Firstly, I have a "manager" who's a right snide little c***, always trying to stich people up and drop them in it to curry favour with his bosses. Anyway, he has dropped a major clanger that resulted in a patient not being treated this Wednesday while I was in Barcelona. It was technically my case but I passed it on to him, with his full acceptance and acknowledgement to cover it for me. With this promise (which he is usually very good on I have to say) I left it in his hands. I called him several times on Monday and also as I was at the airport on Tuesday morning to ensure he had the correct information but he didn't bother to respond. He basically needed to order the equipment the patient needed to have implanted and only he had the information at this stage needed to do this, it was then out of my hands. It turns out he ordered the stuff too late and the courier (there's a surprise) didn't deliver on time.

This morning, on my return from Barcelona, he was straight on the phone demanding to know why I hadn't ordered the stuff. In fact I had done sotwo weeks' weeks' ago but for some reason, it wasn't delivered, hence my hounding him Monday and Tuesday to get stuff done. Even on Tuesday AM, there was ample time for the stuff to get there but as I say, he was non-contactable.

I argued my case and assumed that was the end of the matter but he's contacted HR and set up a "meeting" which I've been informed of. Now it turns out this "meeting" is a disciplinary which has totally shocked me as the problem lies with him and no blame has been established or apportioned.

My question is, is this legal and what do I have in my favour to stop this? I don't want to drop him in it (although I've no doubts at all he'd do it to me as soon as look at me) but if it comes to it, I would state the facts exactly as I understand them. What's the right approach for this kind of situ?
