Ian Wallace (September 29, 1946 - February 22, 2007) was a rock drummer and session musician.

 

Born in Bury, England, Wallace was a member of progressive rock group King Crimson from 1971-1972. He appeared on Islands in 1971 and on the live album Earthbound in 1972, as well as a number of later archival releases. Prior to Crimson he played in The Warriors with Jon Anderson in his pre-Yes days. After King Crimson, he went on to join Alexis Korner's Snape, and became a reputed studio musician later on. In 2003 he joined the 21st Century Schizoid Band, replacing Michael Giles.

 

The list of artists Ian has played with in the studio and on the road is lengthy and includes Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder, Peter Frampton, George Harrison, Joe Walsh, Bob Dylan, Johnny Hallyday, Keith Emerson,Roy Orbison, Jackson Browne and The Travelling Wilburys.

 

In 2005 he released an album King Crimson Songbook Vol. 1 of jazz versions of King Crimson compositions as part of The Crimson Jazz Trio.

 

On 10 August 2006, Wallace was diagnosed with esophageal cancer, which he would die of in February 2007. [1].
