I want to learn how to play the guitar

Can anyone on here play the guitar ?

 

I was in my local video shop a few months ago and some scrawny little f'cker with his nose peirced was sat working behind the counter with a guitar and banged out blackbird by the beatles and it sounded ace.

 

a) How much are they and what type should I buy

b) Should I get lessons or just buy music books and work through them

c) How long does it take for someone of limited intelligence like me to be able to play blackbird
