what now for Pongolle and the boy Mellor ?

Anyone reckon we'll keep either of them as emergency cover ?

 

I'm made up with the quality and variety of strikers we have in the squad. Its going to make it very hard indeed for the likes of Neil Mellor and Sinama. It was tough enough last season but I just can't see how either of them is going to get any decent playing time with us. This has been said before but the signing of Kuyt throws it into sharp focus.

The only problem with that is that the reserve squad now has a younger generation, in their teens mostly. Le Tallec, Pongolle and Mellor playing for the reserves would stop us from bringing in talented prospects to try out as strikers and it wouldn't develop their games enough either.

I think Newcastle are looking for strikers.

 

I wanted Pongolle to stay as I think he could do a decent job but he's just not going to play is he.

I can see a case for keeping either of them.

But there are implications for the lad's career.

Get rid of all 3 of them.

 

They are all at that stage where they need to be playing reguarly and they aren`t even going to get a sniff of that here.

 

We could do with getting some money back in too. I reckon we £5-6 million if we play our cards right.

Still think its agood possibility. No point of him hanging around, if he was gonna figure often, Rafa wouldnt have bought Kuyt,hewould have found a cheaper option.....

at any rate, if they are in for him, I reckon it is for the right side of their attack, not centrally.

 

Would be a good move for both gems if it came off.

I'd get rid of both. Neither are anything special.

 

Also, if people are wondering where Garcia fits in, these two surely are going to have little chance of making the bench never mind the starting line up.

 

They need regular football anyway so should leave for their own good.

Pongolle is the one I'd least like to see leave. However he had a run of games at Blackburn last year and didnt exactly set the place on fire. Can see the value of using him as an impact sub but apart from that dont see much chance for him apart from League Cup games and the like.

 

Mellor and Le Tallec wont make the bench in all honesty ahead of Bellamy Crouch Kuyt and Fowler. And it is likely that Rafa will play 2 of those 4 in the League Cup to get match fitness up - which 2 of course depends on who is/isnt getting a good run in league games and the CL which would again limit FSPs chances.

 

Perhaps if he had been given a good run 2 years ago he could have staked a claim but that ship has sailed now IMO.
