I know how you feel....About 5 years ago we were investigated (random check not cos they thought we were up to no good) anyway a couple of months went by after we sent in our books (plus personal info such as bank/credit card statements etc) and we got a letter asking us to clarify a few points. The main point was how come we had banked £90,000+ more than we had invoiced out, at the time I had a partner and believe me if we had an extra £90k hanging around I think we would have known about it Our accountant was telling them that there must be some mistake and to go over the accounts again, they did and came back with the same question. After 16 odd months of going back and forth, having countless meetings (being grilled) and spending out additional accountancy fees it turns out the silly feckers didn't realise that they were in fact looking at a dollar account, not sterling!!

 

One of the other question was about my personal bank account, well my debit card actually. For months they kept asking me to produce statements for my debit card I kept telling them they already had them they kept saying they didn't. In the end I had to point out to the daft bint investigating us that debit card transactions appear on your bank statement even then she had to check with a colleague
