Every season most business gets done in the last weeks before the end of transfer window

but the real busiess starts 6 motns earlier. Rafa knows who he wants and you can bet he and the staff have been working to get them long before the season ended or the World Cup starts

What's the point of signing them now? It'll just cost us a few million paying for all their wages over the summer :)

and possible injury

Last season was one of the most underwhelming transfer periods for Liverpool. And this was following a champions league final victory.

There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm about signings every year, especially on forums- but deals dont often go through completely, and we may not end up with all the proposed players we need/want.

Although frustrating as a fan who loves the transfer gossip I love the sleight of hand dealings that Rafa makes.

Unfortuntely, of all the transfer rumours and players linked and news from 'sources', this statement will probably be the truest of the lot. Virtually every transfer window we get linked with loads of players and people are convinced that there a 'big' or 'surprise' or 'exciting' transfer on the way. But rarely is this the case, as recent history tells us. People always work out these unrealistic transfer budget's, but when it comes down to it, we will have to be really shrewd, as we often are (with the odd Diouf or Cisse exceptions, though these still lag way behind truly big transfers that Utd, Chelsea even Newcastle have done in the past). I remember people being convinced we were signing Zidane, Beckham, Ronaldo, Aimar etc. etc. But even the more realistic targets of recent years like Duff, SWP, Simoa, Kuyt, C. Ronaldo, we've been priced out of.

I think we'll sign a few decent players, but 1 or 2 'world class' players that we always crave, forget it.

Ya see that's the thing, last season's purchases were seen as disappointing by most, but on reflection it was the most effective summer spending spree we've had in recent memory. A World class keeper, a truly top class midfield prospect, a free transfer midfielder who played well while fit and a forward who helped us change our game to fit Rafa's vision.

If our fanbase is as underwhelmed come August I'll be delighted.

Amen, brother.
