Fastest way from Newcastle/Sunderland area

Will be flying in to Newcastle to do some work in September and want to go to Liverpool for the weekend before I head home. What's the fastest way from Newcastle/Sunderland area to Liverpool? I'm not going to rent a car.

 

I did a search on Virgin Trains and it got me this:

 

Dep: Newcastle 10:26

Arr: York 11:24

Dep: York 11:37

Arr: Liverpool 13:57

 

3½ hour ain't that bad, but is there anything faster?
