meredithmathieson Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Viewers of the BBC2 Newsnight programme will be aware that they are currently running a vote as to the most memorable newspaper front page headlines. Last night, viewers had to suffer that walking ego that is Kelvin MacKenzie talking at length and with pride about the three entries from that rag that feature in the poll (Freddie Starr Ate My Hamster; Gotcha! & Up Yours Delors!). Somewhat curiously, 'The Truth' did not feature. Nor does it feature in the list of 11 headlines from which the winner is voted by the public. Now I know that we have a huge emotional interest in this subject, but surely objectively as it is recognised as the greatest ever media mistake in terms of lost revenue alone, and is still subject to huge boycott 17 years on, 'The Truth' should feature in the gallery of the top headlines chosen, from which the viewers can choose the winner. So, as we've not been allowed to vote for 'The Truth', I've enclosed a link to the Newsnight site, so anybody who wishes to can at least ask for an explanation as to why this headline was so conveniently ignored. Cobs Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Note really anywhere to voice your opinion over this so (dunno if i should have done but) I've voted for the 'Gotcha' headline Why have you chosen this front page? beacuse it comes closest to the Front page headline that should be on your list - namely 'The Truth' from The Sun in April 1989 following the Hillsborough tragedy. I say closest, in that it shows the depths to which vermin, posing as Newspaper Editors will stoop to for sales of their paper. What your (the BBC) new friend Kelvin Mackenzie did that day will live forever - far beyond his dying day - and whilst he reamains alive his name for me, will forever be associated with the very worst that exists in British Journalism. The man is a disgrace not only to his profession but to decent people throughout the country and i can't believe the BBC have suddenly taken it upon themselves to employ him. His omission from this list is a farce but not surprising. Shame on you all.
meredithmathieson Posted May 18, 2006 Author Posted May 18, 2006 Cheers Cobs. I am still awaiting a reply from the Newsnight staff as to the selection criteria, and whether or not another entry can be allowed even at this stage if there is the popular demand, but somehow I don't think that I'll hold my breath on that one..
Spike Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 For those that aren't aware the BBC are employing McKenzie to host a series on world cup scandals and it has been heavily trailed on 5 live. Aside from McScumsies involvement this series also includes details of Wayne Rooney and the brothels - with one reporter quoting that they got threatened and had to beat 6 Liverpool gangs to the story. For one this is Rooneys first world cup so there is absolutely no relevance and even more importantly our license fee is paying for this sensationalist, hypocritical tripe lining McKenzies pockets. More details are in the Hillsborough forum here: http://www.ynwa.tv/forum/index.php?showtopic=103051 Please get the full story before emailing any complaint.
meredithmathieson Posted May 29, 2006 Author Posted May 29, 2006 Cheers Spike Starski, Must admit to being disappointed as to the take up on this thread: perhaps if I'd said that a mate of a mate of the milkman who delivers two full fat amd a semi skimmed to Defoe's house had been told to cancel, then it would have run and run for 20 pages. However, it was only about having a go back at that twot MacKenzie. So apparently nobody is arsed.
