Remember reading somewhere that Mourinho kept drilling into his team that the key to winning the premiership was winning every game against the bottom 10 teams. Think Aquilani could do a better job of helping us beat these teams that Meireles. I agree that he's very expensive for someone who isn't going to start every game, but he is here at the club right now and (as Wayne says) if he can play like that consistently, he's definitely a very valuable asset to the club.
I agree with the direction of your argument, but even if Gerrard has no best position, from the perspective of the team, it seems best to keep him as close to the opposition goal as possible, where he can be the most effective. No?
