The people who sing these chants, or at least instigate them, are usually people who weren't around, or at least aware, of the events of 50, 23 and 19 years ago. I'm not bothered about Everton fans - the club has their own problems with their support and doesn't seem to do much to address them. But Liverpool fans singing '2-0 to the murderers' is not on. I understand it was supposedly ironic, but irony is lost on many people, especially when it is written out in a newspaper in black type. We don't need to go down that road, thanks.

I wouldn't worry too much. Let's not forget that United have already drawn at home to Newcastle (who have otherwise been crap), Arsenal lost at Fulham, Chelsea drew at home to Tottenham (who have otherwise been crap). We've beaten United and got a point at Villa, and we haven't even got going yet really. Let's not forget we thrashed Derby 6-0 this time last season and everyone got carried away. This season we beat United and the next week everyone is thinking we've got no chance. Get a grip eh!

I did, and I still stand by that. If only because Germany would steamroller them. My point, however, has already been proven. If a team as ordinary as Germany, that lack any outstanding team play and hardly any outstanding individuals, can get to the final, that shows you there are no great teams in international football at the moment. Which is what I said at the beginning.

Hey, Germany in the final! Amazing!
-
Now, now. I seem to recall you being somewhat upset when I suggested Germany had an effective bye to the final, and that was after the first game! Seems I may well be right...
-
Ooh, what price Germany getting to the final now? Who'd have thunk it eh!

This European Championships is doing something odd to me. I'm actually finding myself wanting Germany to win their games. I think it's partly because Germany are Germany - you know what you get with them, they have pedigree and, yes, they are actually a lot more easier on the eye than in olden days. Germany are a team Liverpool should try and be like, if with a little more flair and a lot more defensive solidity. They exposed Portugal for what they are - all the fancy build-up play is nothing without a good defence and a top striker - and I have the feeling they'll do the same to Croatia too in the semi-finals... after all, who was the last team to beat Germany TWICE in one finals? And if the final is Germany v Holland or Spain, we know how that will end up. Germany v Italy, however, is too close to call. Germany v Russia would be an eye-opener, though.

Funny if the semis are Croatia v Germany and Holland v Italy, and the teams that won the group games lost the game that mattered...
-
Ooh Germany won. Who'd have thunk it eh...

There has been so much piffle spouted in this thread, it makes me pine for France v Romania on repeat play for a solid week...

No, I'm on here with a sense of reason. It was like the commentary in the Turkey game the other night.. 'well, has there ever been as good a comeback as this in European Championship history!!'... er yes, eight years ago! That was the best game so far, however. The one good thing is that we have seen that there's really only been one defensive team (Greece) and they are out already. However, there are PLENTY of teams that completely lack a decent striker (think Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Russia, even Croatia and Portugal to some extent), and other teams who have a good striker but have no idea how to use them properly (Sweden, Romania, Turkey somewhat) or have forwards that are past their best (Italy, Czech Republic, France). Which leaves three teams - Holland, Germany and Spain. All with strikers that have, at least so far, been performing. Unless the other teams through to the last eight get their strikers performing, the winner will come from one of these three teams simply because their forwards are actually in form and being utilised effectively. If there's one good thing to come out of this tournament, it will be the rebirth of the striker, at least on the international stage. Unlike 2004, it's the strikers that will win it, not the defenders. Now all we need is to unearth us some playmakers...

Well, who guessed right then? -
It has been okay so far, but people are getting carried away a bit. A tournament is only really remembered by the quality of its last seven games - the quarters, semis and final. And let's be honest, there are some pretty average teams in this competition. The idea to extend it to 24 teams would be very, very wrong.

Clever goal, but what was the keeper doing?!
