  5. I'll be sending this from home later: I am shocked and appalled you have seen fit to publish an article so bereft of fact as to make it a work of offensive fiction. I refer, of course, to the recent leader column of The Spectator. How you can have the temerity to publish a piece so error ridden is beyond me - and the fact such an article is doing nothing more than pouring salt on still-open wounds makes me wonder what planet you are currently residing on. Thoughts and opinions of Ken Bigley aside, the families and friends of the 96 victims of the Hillsborough tragedy will feel nothing but anger and revulsion at the way you have portrayed such a tragic day. As a fellow journalist, I find it amazing that you did not arm yourself with the facts before spewing forth such bile - but the fact you did not even bother to acquaint yourself with the actual figure ("more than 50" is nothing more than an insult) just beggers belief. As a fan of Liverpool football club, I have long given up on the press coverage of that day in 1989 when innocent people lost their lives, but when a supposedly intelligent publication produces an article which a toddler with a thesaurus could have improved it just makes me despair. The Hillsborough Justice Campaign is still fighting for the truth to be heard, and for those responsible to brought to justice. I trust your publication will cover the event when that day comes. As for your comments about the city itself, it is clear to me you have never made it any further north than the Watford Gap. And I'm willing to bet you only got that far because your chauffer got lost. If people are to be educated and informed - something journalists are trained to do - then articles like this should never see the light of day. All you are doing is fuelling prejudice and racism - something the Conservative party alleges to be against. May I suggest the author of this article is put on the first train to Lime Street, where he can make a full, and very public, apology in the city he has seen fit to reduce to a stereotype.
  6. Put me down for The Stanley mate. I'll e-mail you later
