saw it last night, faithful adaptation but LOTR lite - with many ripped off shots from LOTR - Jackson should get a cut.

Like the books, it's much more aimed at kids than LOTR - hence, I thought it was average. The posh middle class kids really got to me as well.

If you have kids, they'll love it though.

Thought it was very average. Lord of the rings lite is a very apt description just like the book. The christian moralising is difficult to ignore aswell.

Difficult to ignore? It's laid on with a f***ing trowel. Thought it was quite average myself, but the lad enjoyed it and that's what it's all about.

That's why it's difficult to ignore. I got dragged to watch it by my good lady. She claims she didn't notice it. I think the studio that made it pushed the christian slant as much as possible. It's some Neocon christian nutter who owns it or something, combined with the fact Disney were involved was only going to compound it.

The "christian" story about blood sacrifice and renewal was nicked from about forty-two thousand other "religions". Nothing unique about it.

Its only if you are primarily aware of the Christian myths in the first place that you would identify anything in the Narnia tales with said myths. Without that awareness you wouldn't have any point of reference...the egg most definitely comes before the chicken on this one.

So 10 fecking minutes of Lucy and Susan weeping over the dead lion isn't at about the two Marys at the grave then Dan?

My buddhist mate doesn't think so, but then he isn't as familiar with the christian myth. My point is that you have to know the myth to get the references. Fecking pointless otherwise. So if you don't know the myths in the first place (i.e kids and non-christians) its harmless.

And then being resurected and the Ice queen who prevents christmas and kills the messiah isn't an anti semitic reference. The only way it could have been more like the passion of the christ is if Alsan had been flogged for 20 minutes before being killed.

Nobody is disputing that it is allegorical to the christian myth. Just that it isn't really offering anything controversial in terms of new insights or viewpoints on the story and that without knowledge of the myth in the first place it would just seem like a reasonably ordinary story.

See my post above. Nobody is disputing that, but you tell me how you could recognise it as christian allegory if you didn't know the references to the original subject of the metaphor?
