Lost my phone

I got an iphone for christmas and I've left it on a bus, the bus company have no record of it being handed in, I've called it for the past 2 days and it goes straight to voicemail, the provider says it cant locate it because it isnt switched on. Does anyone know anyway I can find its location using GPS or somthing or can be alerted when/if it is switched on?
