Noticed Celtic got beat today and so was just browsing over the league table on the BBC site. At the bottom there is a note

 

Note that table splits in half for the last five games of season, after which no team from the top six can drop into the bottom six, and no bottom six team can climb into the top six, irrespective of points earned

 

Wtf is that about?! Is this a new rule they have brought in? Whats the reasoning?

They started to do this during last season I think. The SPL is split into two leagues for the last five games ie a team in the respective tier will only play the other teams in the bottom or top league. It works pretty good for deciding the champions because the league is so awfully predicable but for all others it is an unjust system on account for the big risk for home/away game imbalance.
