Employment question

My mum has been working for Dunnes Stores in Ireland for over a decade. Anyway theres rumours doing the rounds that they've just been bought out by ASDA. There has been talk about termination of contracts etc. but I have a feeling that could be all chinese whispers.

 

What usually happens in this situation? Is there usually a redundancy package offered if the contract is indeed terminated? With the announcement due on Thursday, should I get her to ring her union rep now?
