As Vista seems to have given up the ghost on my pc I thought I'd download and run Ubuntu on it instead. I'm currently running the entire OS from the cd to try it out and have to say I'm very impressed.

Any tips or pointers for using it? What about software? I've looked into WINE which lets you run most windows apps within it, but I'd rather most of the apps were unix native.
