Its a shame when you look at the table now and realize how much that period when we could only draw games affected us.

I know its all what ifs and stuff but we could've easily been up there at the moment.

I really hope next season is our year because this one could've been ours.

I agree and disagree. Yes, we have dropped some pretty stupid points, maybe about 10 in total home and away. But we're not a match for the Mancs yet in terms of the maturity of our football and the quality of our first team players.

We might not yet be a match for the Mancs, but we could lose twice to them in a season and still win the league.

the mancs are light years ahead of us out wide, both wings and full backs in terms of flair and attacking ability

The other thing is we are to negative - look at how arsenal responded to being 2-0 down and having a man sent off, we would have taken torres off and sat back and just tried to keep the score down like we did at old trafford.

We do not impose ourselves enough on games

Its the same every season though, we always seem to fall short every time, this season it has been a case of not converting those frustrating draws into wins. That is ultimately what has separated us from the Mancs.

Mancs P31 W24 D4 L4

Liverpool P31 W17 D11 L4

Same number of defeats but the Mancs have converted 7 more draws into wins (14pts) there lies the difference.

Thats what i was thinking, its a fine line that divides success and failure.

I know that our team is not the finished article but a lot of things come to play in the length of a full season.

If you took Ronaldo out of United and put him in our team we'd probably be top.

The gap isn't that big between us and United. Yes they have better wingers and a better left back. However otherwise we can match them.

I'm not sure Wes Brownis better than Arbeloa for example. Or VDS better than Reina.

No need to be extreme, they are better than us, but not light years.

I agree with that, i also think a big reason for Utds strength defensively is that they're so good going forward. If you have attacking players like Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Giggs, etc.. it takes a lot of pressure off your defence because the opposition is going to be pre-occupied with stopping them. Yes Utd have some very good defenders but how often are they tested?

I think attack is very often the best form of defence, and if we improve upon our attacking play by signing 1 or 2 top quality attacking players that will have a knock on effect throughout the team.

But at this level success and failure is determined on very small details.

Agreed.

At the beginning of the season, Benitez sent out the team with an intent to attack.

We were pro active against Chelsea at Anfield for example and it was Mourinho who was changing the Chelsea team to stop ours. This is what we need to do more of, taking the game to the opposition with the intent to win a game, rather than not lose it. Hence too many draws.
