Hammersmith & Fulham uses YouTube to announce council tax cuts

The west London council is said to be the first council in the country to use the video sharing site to announce a three percent decrease in its council tax.

The short pop video features Harry Hammersmith and the Flyovers doing a new version of the Status Quo hit ‘Down Down’ to highlight the fact that the council has announced its intention to reduce council tax.

Council spokesman, Gavin Rogers, said, “So far the video has received over one thousand five hundred hits and looks set to go over two thousand in the space of just two days.

“The story has been picked up by the Evening Standard and other London papers, and features on the Guardian's website in Helene Mulholland's blog.

“As the first council in the country to use YouTube in this way, it is a significant media story in itself, not to mention the message behind it about council tax.”
