Whats the point of our deal with Ashanti Gold if Madrid signs their best prospect?

Madrid has apparently signed Daniel Opare Ashanti Gold's brightest prospect, a 17 y/o right back.

Shouldn't we have signed this lad before anyone even knew about him if our connections with the Ghanian club actually worked?

Couldn't get a work permit?

Thats the top and bottom of it Gobez

there's also the possibility that he wanted to join real rather than us, then we can't force him join us, first options usually just work if the player wants to join the club

All a first option means is that we have to be informed if a club makes a bid for a player and that our bid is accepted if we make one for the same amount. The real advantage of it is that we should know about the club's best prospects before everyone else, this lad is well known because he was one of the best players at last years u17 world cup

Not much point having an amny kind of deal going with a club if you're not gonna be able to get work permits for the young stars that might come through.

Well if we had a deal with a club in another country where the prospects could gain citizenship (like ManU do with Antwerp) it would work. That said, I'm sure in a situation like this we'd still have a hard time convincing players to sign for us rather than head to Spain.

"Sign for us, we'll shift you to Belgium for 3 years, and then make you uproot all over again and spend some time proving yourself with the reserves over in Warrington."

or

"We're Real Madrid."

good point... surely it'd be a good idea to get a lower spanish team to comply then. Not like those players going to real are going to get anywhere near the first team for years... unless thery are a wonderkid of course.
