Backquote

UK/Ireland keyboard users! Do you have the following keyboard layout?

 

 

If so, do you ever use the strange key in the top left-hand corner? And if so, what for? Apparently it produces the 'backquote' character:

 

`

 

looks like an apostraphe but isn't.

 

What's it for?
